Great phone and all, but I don't get why it doesn't charge while its connected with the USB data cable.
I've always used the USB data cables to charge my phones while at work, since I keep the original chargers at home.
Just today I found the charger of my previous HTC touch phone (which uses the same usb connector as the n95 data cable), and got to wondering...
.....what would happen if I connected this charger into my nokia's usb port....?
A puff of white electrical burn smoke??
Anybody actually tried this?

Nothing would happen if its pretty much just a USB/Mini USB cable (i accept no responsibility for damage) but i use the cable that came with/charges my imate as a USB cable for my N95 with no problems.
Blame Nokia for not intergrating the two.

Or the generic USB to Mini USB cable to tranfer data?

Well, the one that came with the imate is basically a generic one. Its got to do with the port on the phone. The one that came with my N95 also charges the imate.
USB cables will only do what the port their connected to will allow them to do.

Although at Nokia stockists or even ebay, you can purchase a data cable for the N95 that also has a charge tip built on to it.

I just RE-read your 1st post sandrodz, is the charger you found, one that connects to the PC via USB or one that goes into an electrical power socket ?

Its the electrical Power socket to the USB mini port cable.
Like the ones the motorola phones use.
THATS why I'm so troubled about connecting it...!

just to let you know, i accidentally connected the charger from my Mio GPS to my n95 once, was completely accidental as the mini usb cords look the same and they live next to each other. Didn't do anything, no puff of smoke.. nothing like that, just basically didn't do anything
