Can't believe how much LCDs have come down in price!!! For pretty much the same (add ?00 more say) I could have got a 40" Sammy  http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=320510 .
My excuse is we didn't have a choice as the old TV was knackered...! Might upgrade next year tho (1080p) and move the 32" to the office!
How about you? What are you TV plans? ------------ When my Dad and I first stepped into Selfridges at around April this year, we were blown away by the R7 series LCD tvs, and judging by the reaction of the other shoppers we weren't the only ones. We walked away with two: 32" and 40" models LE32R74BDX and LE40R74BDX. We took a leap of faith after having used old SONY tvs for so long that were on their way out.
The whole LCD and HDTV marketing has a lot to answer for: they're now pontificating about 1080p Full HD when only a few months ago 720p (still HD) was good enough. Well for me 720p is good enough indeed and I'm sticking with it for at least another two years (!). NB: The R7 series can display 1080i HD which is better than nothing. Besides once all the broadcasters have got their act together and SKY/NTL/Telewest have a mature HD broadcast system in place, then Full HD (whatever the hell that is at any given moment) will be the accepted norm.
What next? Even high resolution? More marketing hype to encourage people to buy tvs with 3 or 4 HDMI slots so that they can plug their Grannies in? I don't know about you but I aint loaded and certainly don't have the inclination to buy a new TV every year.
New and Emerging technologies are big business in flat panel tvs and it leaves people in two modes: the 'lurkers' and the 'plungers'. The former wait and waits but never buys anything because of the rapid advances in tv technologies, and the latter finally takes the precedented step and buys the latest TV only to find 6 months later that a new 'widget' is being launched.
Time for a coffee I think ;) ------------ lol well put :-)
I think for other electronic devices I wouldn't have minded so much, it's just that I am a gamer and the PS3 is going to output in 1080p, plus I like home cinema so 1080p Blu Ray on a 'big' set would come in handy :D
To be honest though I think it's just the size, my 32" is too small really, as the room is a lounge diner so quite big - the TV's fine (just) in the lounge area of the room, but when at the dinning table it's a bit too small.
The 32" won't be wasted, sold or discarded tho as it will be ace for the office :-) ------------ Even cheaper at
http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/sound-and-vision/vision/tv/615398/prices ------------ Blimey... they're coming down fast... think I will hold on for a 40" 1080p set tho... think I'll be happy then :D ------------ Blimey... they're coming down fast... think I will hold on for a 40" 1080p set tho... think I'll be happy then :D
But I read that 1080p broadcasting isn't going to commence until 2011 at least. Or is that for terrestrial only?
