Don't suppose anyone can offer any suggestions - Whenever I try to copy files to my 8gb Corsair (non GT) flash drive, firstly it's ridiculously slow (takes about 10mins to copy a 300mb file) and secondly, when copying, my entire system goes extremely sluggish. The mouse jerks whilst moving around the screen and it's really difficult to do anything else whilst it's copying. It's the same whether I copy from an external USB drive I have or any of my existing IDE or SATA drives.
.

I checked on the task manager in case it was my anti-virus (Kaspersky) but that seems to be only using it's normal low amount of power - the only other usage showing is SYSTEM and the CPU usage literally changes every second going from 4% usage to over 40% usage and then every figure inbetween.

The flash drive works fine on my iBook and on my daughter's Vista laptop. I'm running XP home on a Dual-VSTA motherboard with dual core pentium E6400 processor.

I've tried a variety of my USB ports and all are functioning at USB2 level so it's not that.

Cheers for any thoughts.

strange - try running HDBench and see what performance you get for the drive on each pc for a 100mb test

it should give you 4 results (can't remember exactly which)

So is this a new build PC? an old one? new from a shop?
------------

Bought the mobo, processor and case about a year to 15 months ago I think (although may sound stupid but I can't remember specifically). I cannabalised my old p4 PC by taking out the X800 graphic card and the two existing HDs I had at the time.

I've never used HD Bench. Is it freeware/shareware or do I need to buy a copy (should say that although I can put bits together and make them work, I've no idea about optimising components etc). I did make sure at the time that the Mobo had the most up to date firmware by checking on the website.

I checked that the IDE channels were using DMA as the sytem slows in a very similar way as to when I had a problem on my old machine where for some reason the channels would revert of their own free will to pio(?).

I've tried the mobo USB2 slots and also I have a USB2 card but that's the same. I have two USB1 ports on the front of the case and if I use them, XP warns me that I'm using a slow port so I'm assuming the other USB ports are ok.

Does this clarify anything? The drive results at the bottom are for my flash drive.
