windows xp professional/ Hello,
So after completing my new build, I have come to find that my 5.1 surround sound is useless because my computer refuses to use all channels. I have tried many things and done research etc and I can't seem to get the full 5.1 sound out in any test by RealTek or the 5.1 in Crysis. I have everything set to output in 5.1. .

The only thing is that RealTek program will no longer detect the jacks I plug in. When I first used the program I had full detection. By that I mean, the program would pop up and say "the orange jack has been connected, what speaker is this. I would select subwoofer and I could do the same for all ports. (Black in and select rear, Orange in and select Subwoofer, and Green in and select front).
The problem occured when I switched to a sound card. I uninstalled the onboard drivers and plugged in the sound card via PCI. Once I realized the onboard sound was far superior over the card, I uninstalled the drivers of the card and removed the card. I reinstalled the onboard drivers and it worked fine. I heard sound from all speakers.
But what I heard from all 6 speakers was the same sound. 6 speakers running on the 2.0 channel. I have everything selected to 5.1 and even have the right cables plugged in in the correct color codes. No matter what I do, I can not get 6 individual speaker sounds.
P.S. I have uninstalled the onboard drivers and reinstalled over and over again. I personally think that plugging in the sound card auto-disabled something in the BIOS to make it so auto-detect isn't enabled.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank You ------------ Bump. Any ideas would be much appreciatd. I have tried system restore and it didnt work.
