digitmax car dvd video cd player dash dm-385 mp3 remote/
Hi all,

I wonder if you guys can give me your opinions on this ... http://www.goodmans.co.uk/productdet...language=en-GB
.

I'm after a cheapish setup to provide surround sound for watching DVDs and TV - which I'm sure this can do.

What I want to know specifically though, is will this provide surround sound with our virgin Vbox and nintendo Wii

I've checked out their guide - here - http://www.goodmans.co.uk/content/ug...language=en-GB

and what my untrained eye tells me is that whatever is plugged into it will come out of the 5.1 speakers.

I'm a techie by trade, but seemed to have missed the boat on all this home cinema stuff

Any help or advice appreciated.

Cheers
Bryan------------

an opinion....absolute rubbish.
an extremely poor tv,a dvd player with a sub par picture, that isnt a patch on a ?0 asda special, and a surround system, that isnt compatible with the dvd player, and pretty much everything else.

that tv is poor,it has poor blacks, picture quality, and sound.
the dvd player has mediocre picture quality, and only does dolby digitial 5.1,through coax, and has stereo audio out,and no DTS for you with it.
the surround system, has low wattage speakers,a subwoofer that is meh!,which wont sound great, and very poor inputs - 5 in total,i believe,4 of them stereo,so no surround for you, only stereo with rear echo.
1 of them is analogue 5.1 in,but try finding a dvd player with analogue 5.1 audio out - the one in the package doesnt have those outputs,to match..thus stereo only,or a matrix effect, that will give some echo through the rears.
the "5.1" bit is for analogue 5.1 in,but the dvd player that comes with the kit, only has stereo out.!?!

in a single word....avoid.

and at the price i see it for on their sponsored site...are they having a laugh..?79.
they have been flogging that kit for nearly 2 years now,and its still as poor as ever.

you could do a lot better for your money..
what kind of a budget do you have in mind,as that would be a good start,to get the ball rolling.------------

How in hell do they call that a Home theatre kit? It is a cheap PC speaker system that does not even have digital decoding onboard.

It's beyond belief. And on the Littlewoods site it wants an amazing ?79.
Try How in hell do they call that a Home threate try http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/p...roduct_ID/3396 with http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/p...roduct_ID/3269 and http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/conten...nd~toshiba.htm for next to no difference.
REAL 5.1 Dolby digital, good LCD and DVD player. And that is without finding the cheapest price.------------

------------

the wii,no,its not capable of 5.1 surround, only pro-logic II,which is basically almost a pseudo surround mode.
the Vbox, yes, you would get 5.1 on 5.1 broadcast material.
a dvd player also would allow Dolby Digital 5.1/DTS 5.1,amongst other formats(cd's could be played through the surround also).

you could get something on or near your budget that would be far better value than what you linked to.
