Ayone used the price rise to get out of their 12 month contract? According to other forums this is possible

Did you cancel all of your services (phone, bband, tv) or just the TV as this was the only services with a price rise....
.

.

Im hoping to drop the tv and keep hte phone & bband, just wondering if its all or nothing attitude from VM------------

------------

I'd be a little surprised if VM have agreed to cancel contracts on the basis of their latest price rises. We've had a look into this on the other thread and my understanding of the situation is as follows.

The terms and conditions state that you can cancel service that are affected by price increases but the implication seems that you cannot cancel additional services if only one is affected by a price rise, e.g. you can't cancel your phone and broadband just because they put the TV price up.

This sounds simple enough but when you look at the way the price increases have been worded in the recent notification letter it seems that Virgin have been a little crafty when it comes to how they have worded and where they have actually applied the increases. my understanding is that the XL TV package has risen slightly and that there has been a slight increase for customers who want to be billed via paper.

Virgin have offered an opt out from paper billing for customers who want to receive email billing and thus avoid the increased paper billing charge. This would mean that you probably couldn't cancel anything due to the 'billing' price increase.

As far as the XL TV package goes, I guess you could theoretically cancel the XL TV package as per their terms and conditions, but seeing as this is the only package affected I would have thought it unlikely that customers on lower packages will get any joy from attempts to cancel.

At the end of the day, if you have a reasonable reason for being dissatisfied with the service and state it clearly enough, VM will probably let you go in the end. Most organizations don't want the hassle of arguing with somebody who is adamant and clued up. However, don't think these price increases are an automatic entitlement for you to drop all services.------------

Its on the digital spy (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=7) and cable forums (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/10...-contract.html).

There are posts from VM staff who say this is true.

Im going to call them myself on thursday and see what the deal is. Im hoping to keep my bband & phone line only, ditching my V with TV Xl package. Not sure if VM will allow this, word coming back to me on these forums is that you cancel services all or nothing------------

The posts on the links you've given seem to reiterate what's been said on here tbh.

Give it a go, quote the terms and conditions and stick to your guns. For what it's worth though, I wouldn't bother phoning in the first instance. I'd write a letter giving your notice to cancel and making reference to the relevant terms and conditions. Make sure it's send recorded delivery and then wait for them to make the next move.------------
