The moon was very low tonight, which meant that it was very red/orange.

Took a few shots on the tripod, as it wasn't very bright.

Here's the best couple (cropped slightly differently).
.

.

#1 Very low in sky

Camera: Nikon D50
Exposure: 0.2 sec (1/5)
Aperture: f/8
Focal Length: 300 mm
ISO Speed: 200

#2 square crop within clouds

Camera: Nikon D50
Exposure: 1.3 sec (13/10)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 300 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 1 EV

#3

HDR conversion of 3 files bracketed by 1 stop:
f/5.6, 0.3-1.3 sec, ISO200, 300mm

Really like #2 & #3

Thanks - I try to do something different with the moon whenever I can.

It's rare that the moon is faint enough (and the clouds interesting enough) that you can capture it and the clouds with one exposure.

I tried a bit of HDR, combining in CS2 using the automated wizard, but I still don't think I've got the hang of it. I think I'll be best off using two layers and masking the burned-out moon.

I'm with you with having a bit of a fascination with the moon. I like the idea of bringinng clouds into the shot, really atmospheic (no pun intended).

Every now and then I see it and drag everything out to try ang get a decent shot. Here's one from last week.

cheers,

Ken
