Help: Using Razr V3 as laptop modem
Author: web   Add date: 04/16/2008   Publishing date: 04/16/2008   Hits: 0
I just got a laptop and Ive had my Razr V3 for a while. I've heard you can hook up the V3 to the laptop and use it as a modem to cruise the internet as long as signal is available. Is this true? If so How? I've tried several ways to do this. At this point the furthest I've gotten is this:
http://hongblog.net

The laptop recognises the phone as a USB Modem.
The phone will attempt to dial out, but never does. The phone will light up and say it
is dailing out. It even registers the number in "last numbers dialed" but never
actually dials out.

What do I need to do in order to do this? Please specify drivers/programs needed to pull this off. I have tried everything I know but still haven't succeeded. If not, please direct me to a place I can research more.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

try telling your dial up conenction to dial your home phone number. your phone will probably ring.

my experience so far is that The numbers earthlink has me use for dialup connection(it comes free with my cable internet) are clocked by cingular... its wierd but I dont think cingular wants you doing that since they offer a phone internet plan. correct me if Im wrong though.

well wth bluetooth it uses it as modem you can add dialing properties...also cingular also charges you extra when you dnt have a plan for it...cingular and sprint both have air cards for your lab top cingular unlimited around 50.00 verizon aroung 30.00 not 100% sure check into it prices changes alot.......

1. first hv to connect and pair bluetooth devices.
2. create new connection (any name)
3. no username or password (for my acc)
4. dial *99#

that number will init GPRS connection. better with 3G. normal 2.5G tooo slow. rite now im using unlimited plan from celcom.

cybersix is right. Myself, I use the USB cable. The connection is faster. I use T-mobile and have the unlimited web added to my current plan for $5/mo. I have use it on both my laptop and desktop. It really come in handy when traveling and you need to get a map or phone number in a town you don't know. One thing to make sure of is that your firewall will allow you to use the connection. Mine popped up a window saying that something was try to dial out, alow or not. Of course I told it to allow and remeber my choice for the device.

Any special USB cable needed ?

the regular /high speed v3 data cable

Thanks a bunch. Got it working using both bluetooth and then wired. Works really good. 3g is a much better speed then I expected. However, talking to a Verizon mnager, he says there new wireless will out do 3g by a goode margin. Can anyone verify that there is a significant difference?

I'm sure the Verizon guy is paid to say that. I have service through Cingular At&t and they say the same thing only about being better and faster than Verizon
