windows xp home edition/
I've recently shifted from my old Biostar motherboard, to a ASUS P5K3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP. I plugged in new DD3 RAM and a duo core processor. I would be very happy, buuuut... Everything boots fine until I get to windows. My keyboard stops being recognized, and my mouse doesn't work. I believe this is because I'm using Biostar USB drivers, and my mouse and keyboard are USB. The motherboard for some reason has no regular mouse port, so I can't use old keyboard and mice to fix the problem. So I figure I have to update the bios. Sadly, the mobo was refurbished and came with no disk(which I didn't expect).

I've been looking up things online and it seems I can use EZ flash 2 to update my BIOS. I have nothing to update from. Computer doesn't have a floppy drive, I can't burn a cd without this computer. So I downloaded the latest drivers, threw the unzipped files onto my USB, plugged it in. Now it won't let me pick the USB to install from (that is if I even grasp the concept of how to do this correctly, something tells me I failed along the way).

So I'm currently at a loss as to how to get rid of the Windows Biostar drivers and put in the new Asus ones. Help is much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

If you just swapped motherboards, you'll need to do a Windows repair install. The OS is looking for the old board and will not boot correctly. Mike

I got the same advice on a different forum, however, I have a problem now. Basically my machine just boots up, restarts, boots up, restarts. I'm totally at a loss. Here's what I've done so far.

Fixed, more or less. Thanks.

Fixed more or less? I was going to suggest first to boot into the bios and go straight to the Exit menu, "Load Setup Defaults" esc and F10 to save and then reboot. Let us know how you got it working. Mike

if you have no floppy but you can afford to spend some money on a USB FLOPPY drive then you'll probably have a way around your problem. Just set the BIOS to check boot from floppy first and have a floppy diskette ready with the BIOS upgrade (according to manufacturers instructions from their site)

If you require to do a Windows repair (which no doubt will be the second part of your "epic") you can use the USB Floppy to give the driver details of any SATA devices that might be being used and aren't supported by XP SP1 or SP2.
There is a possibility that after going through the repair routine that your floppy might suddenly disappear because Windows Install only recognises a few USB Floppy Drives.
In this case you will have to "modify" the TXTSETUP.OEM file on the floppy to add a few more codes so that the floppy remains recognised after the initial loading of files is done .. I have found that after the SATA drivers have been recognised on the floppy diskette and I have passed the first screen asking what is required INSTALL, REPAIR using console or a third option which evades me right now, ..
