samsung glyde
Hi,
I got my Samsung yesterday and wasn't very impressed with its ability to pick out detail in dark areas of the picture - anything that was shaded or dark just appeared as black. .
I have spent about 2 hours (no joke) changing the settings and I think I have a much better picture now compared to the standard setting ('Dynamic', 'Movie' etc):
If anyone else has some settings they like can they post them as I think the standard setting samsung give are poor and do not show the TV's abilities off at all. Mine are:
For DVD playback via SCART (I cant use componant as I have a dodgy 'flush' connection panel)
Custom:
Contrast 80
Brightness 52
Sharpness 100
Colour 30
Colour Tone Warm 1
Digital NR ON
Dynamic Contrast OFF
Brightness Sensor OFF
I found the dynamic contrast gave better blacks but you loose a lot of detail on dark subject matters and although i like my blacks as blacks on a tv I am happier with it off and only use it if i'm watching at night when the room is darker anyway.
The Brightness sensor seems to just adjust what I have spent ages setting up so I'm not using this either.
So now I love my Samsung as well (yesterdasy I was thinking about taking it back)! ------------ PS - the motion tracking on this TV is awesome for an LCD - no blur or 'smudging' at all. ------------ Nice, I might give those settings a go. Do you find though that you seem to have to keep changing the settings for different DVD's etc. as it keeps on varying all the time.
Though quality is amazing with some DVD's - try Monsters Inc, incredible! ------------ I'll get that DVD today as my girlfriend hasnt seen the TV yet so i'd like something that will look amazing to justify the money!!!
Do you know how Finding Nemo looks by any chance?
I agree that it differs by DVD but I find that in general the settings i have work well but it's normally a matter of personal preference. Also - I have now decided that in general use colour level of 40 is better than 30.
Does it look noticanly different on Componant input compared to Scart as I can't use componant at the minute?
Thanks. ------------ Finding Nemo isn't that great tbh - the BEST DVD that shows off the TV that I've seen is:
The Incredibles
Monsters Inc is a very good second place tho! (and its full screen) ------------ Finding Nemo is pretty impressive but perhaps just too colourful for its own good. Agreed, that Incredibles is very impressive but the full screen image of Monsters is a good way to demo the sammys visuals.
Just watched Star Wars III, again very impressive!
Haven't connected a dvd player via component yet as my JVC THA35 is scart only. Loaded my xbox up though and the quality is very slightly better than scart. ------------ Yep Monsters Inc is definately ACE :) Was always one of my faves and soo well done.
If you can get a prog scan DVD player go for it! difference is quite noticable ;) ------------ Glad you enjoyed it, amazing visuals.
Did take a look at these dvd players that upgrade to HD, still tempted but trying to hold out till true HD/DVD is with us. May get an Xbox 360 at some point which might be a good stop gap which I can at least continue to use once the real stuff arrives.
