car cd in mp3 player sony/ Hi all, after reading lots of posts and viewing the pics of all your hard work, I finally have the chance to have a go myself!
My girlfriend and I have put a deposit down on our first house and the main thing I want to concentrate on is the AV area! So i thought i would call upon some advise. .
.
Excuse the kitchen in the living room but as the house is a new build (and not yet finished) the kitchen is there for storage at present.
Below are some pics of the room I have to work with (not the best i admit, but gives you an idea).
Unfortunately the wall where I'd like the AV equipment to go has a radiator pretty much slap bang in the middle! Which is odd, because this is where they have put the TV points (which you can see from the 2nd image).
The cabinet etc that I have taken a fancy to is made up of a centre section and a display stand either side. It's actually from
Below is a floorplan of where we are looking at placing our furniture etc.
Finally, below is a scale drawing of the AV wall where I'm hoping to install the units and equipment. I have a gloss black Samsung 32" flatscreen, a black Yamaha 3101 surround sound system and a black xbox 360 (not elite...some fancy case with green lights etc) to fill up the spaces with
The partly transparent rectangle behind the TV but infront of the radiator, will be a piece of wood fixed to the two side units, which we will paint the same colour as the wall, so it blends in. I am hoping this will do a few things, a) hide the radiator from sight, b) prevent the heat from the radiator damaging the TV, and c) force the heat upwards (as it will be left fully open at the top.
The back of the centre TV stand will be modified to allow the unit to sit flush against the wall, (otherwise the radiator would push the unit forward, which would look rubbish!)
We have some concerns about whether this will all be ok or not...will the heat all escape out the top ok...or will there still be too much heat around the TV and other AV equipment?
If you guys have any suggestions or comments about the above, I'd very much like to hear them. Please bare in mind the position of the TV sockets, and also that as we have a partly leather sofa, we can't put the sofa against the proposed AV wall. Also the idea of having the AV units central on the proposed wall, is that at some point in the future, i will move my projector and screen from my current bedroom and finish the av install off with the screen central on that wall too ------------ Hi and congrats on your new home
The heat should escape ok if there is enough space, but personally, I would ask a plumber to move it.For the sake of chasing in a couple of pipes, its going to be done properly.
Alternatively, why dont you have the TV where the sofa is and the sofa where your TV is.Ok the TV point is by the radiator but a neatly clipped extension around the skirting or under the carpet will soon fix that.
Also if you have sky, you dont really need a analogue TV point as you can watch all channels via digital anyway.
