Can WinXp be readily transferred (copied) from the ATA hard drive to
the SATA ? How readily will they coexist?

That should be quite easy to do.
Cloning is the way to go (if you don't want to perform a fresh installation of XP on the SATA drive).

Having PATA and SATA drives in the same computer won't be a problem - just remember to set BIOS to boot from the SATA drive.
