To unlock an N95 you need :-
1) flashing box to downgrade to V11 and backup certificates/lock data in case of a problem. (I use Jaf Box)
2) A dejan hammer clip or TP board (or MTBox,BB5/dejan unlocking tp box).
3) A Torx screwdriver to dismantle your phone.
4) an elastic band to hold things together during unlocking.
5) good eyesight and a very steady hand to connect the wires to extremely small testpoints,
(I used very fine sewing needles rather than direct soldering.)
enter the unlocking code (using any unlocking code) *#pw 111111111111111 1# will do(pressing unlock on the tp kit then pressing the last # quickly can be tricky).
6) then upgrade firmware again.
It's a job for VERY experienced phone fiddlers, it took me less than 2 mins to unlock my N95.
Best thing to do is contact your service provider and buy the unlock code.
It's a lot safer and no need for downgrading/dismantling.
A lot of market stalls and dodgy phone shops will do the unlocking but you will have to do your own backup and restore.
(the cost of the code from the network provider is usually the same or very slighly dearer than these guys charge.)
Orange/vodaphone/3 usually charge around ?5
Call your provider you know it makes sense.

got my N95 8gb unlocked via Voda the other day for free !!
Just phoned 'em up telling them the signal was crap and I needed another sim when at work to make calls etc, he gave me the procedure over the phone & job's a good 'un !!
Certainly worth a call to your provider, try using the same reasoning as me and see what they say !!

I can't understand how the phone shop concerned intended to downgrade the firmware as if you try to do this it will either fail or brick the phone :S
