windows xp crack/ I need some help. I just built a system and can't get it to boot no matter what I do. First the specs.
Intel DG965RY mobo(on board sound and video)
Intel C2D e6550 processor .
.
Cooler Master 500w PSU
2 gb Cosair Value select ddr2 667
80 gb sata WD Caviar HD
Sony DVDRW
Cooler Master Elite case
First off I have used this combination of components (except for processor) in at least 6 builds with no problems. I put everything together and the system won't boot. Everything comes on but no video display, the monitor just flashes green to red. Now the list of what I have tried.
New mobo...PSU...verified that the ram worked in another machine...tried to run system on bench still no go. So I checked the processor compatibility and DOH! it was not. So I got another processor (e4500) which is compatible and the same thing. I talked to a friend that is in the pc business and he thought that maybe the wrong processor may have hurt the board. So I went and got another board. No Go! Same thing. Now my next question is do you think that if having the wrong processor in hurt the board could that in someway hurt the new processor putting it in a bad board? I'm at my whitts end with this thing, I'm ready to take up knitting!!! Any ideas? Oh yeah I unplugged any un-needed component and still no go. Could a case create this? I've checked and didn't see any place that the boards could have ground out. HELP!!!! ------------ Do the bench test again, keep in mind since your motherboard has onboard video all it needs to start, pass post(show video) and enter bios is
motherboard
cpu with fan&heatsink
1 stick ram
psu
keyboard, mouse, monitor
If it still won't go on the bench one of these parts is bad or not compatible, have a case speaker connected and tell us if there are any beeps.
Keep it on the bench with the above components only till you find the bad one by swaping one part at a time, my first suspect is a case short, if it don't work on the bench and you are sure that no stand offs were out of place causing a case short when it was in the case I would next suspect the psu ------------ Thanks for the reply Doby. I just did take it out of the case for a new bench test. I have only the MB (3rd one brand new) processor and fan, 1 stick of ram, no mouse or kb, new monitor, and new psu. Still no post! It does give you the one beep as if everything was alright. This is nuts. So far I have used 3 mobos, 2 psu, and 2 different processors, one that I know was incompatible with the Intel boards. I also double checked the standoffs and they are in the right positions. ------------ One beep indicates its passing post,it should be showing some kind of video are you using any type of vga to dvi adapter?
Only thing that I can think of ------------ I'm using on board video as I don't have an old card laying around that I can test with. However this is the 3rd board, hard to imagine all 3 having video trouble. I changed monitors also. I think I'm just going to RMA everything and start over with fresh stuff.
