to enter safe mode tap f8 when booting and from the menu choose safe mode
if you get the drive boot options tap f8 a bit further into the boot up

anyway this has now got worse..... I kept hitting F8 and nothing happenend. I turned it off again and now I dont even get the start up screen, completely black. HELP!
------------ so sorry, I accidentally pulled cable out of back, started now in safe mode, have selected to restore from earlier point and all is going well. can you advise more on those voltages in case this is the issue?
------------ check all the plugs and cards are secure,it does not take much to dislodge one when moving a case
if they are secure
i would suspect the power supply see if you can borrow one to try in it,if it starts in safe mode but not in normal mode
they sell a lot of crap psu's in nz very few good ones
