samsung bd-up5000

Hello all,

I have searched high and low for an answer to this, and even Samsung themselves have not answered, so here goes,
.

Samsung state the contrast ratio being 3000:1 Dynamic Contrast. But what is the contrast ratio of the set without this feature enabled. Now Samsung state that this feature provides a 3x improvement in contrast. Now does this mean that the set has a nominal contrast of 1000:1 without this feature and 3000:1 with Dynamic contrast on?? As I am not a fan of this feature after seeing it demonstrated in a store, as I found it reduced the detail of the picture, I would like to know what the native contrast ratio is of the Samsung LCD TV's so I can make a fair comparison to other sets.

As I am a cricket fan what gives with the new Panasonic Viera LCD's having such a rich darker grass compaed to the Samsung range?

Hi

It looks like our equivilent LE models, and if it is the equiv then it would be 800:1 contrast (ours have the same dynamic od 3000:1)

If it is indeed the same - its a great set!!

Thanks mate, it has come down to a decision between the samsung and the panasonic, purely for the pic qualilty, and the fact that you get more for your money. Leaning toward the panasonic though.

Hi Craig

Not sure what the prices are like there but over here the panasonic costs a lot more! And really not worth the xtra. The ONLY lcd I have personally seen better than the LE32's was the award winning phillips which costs arounf twice the money! But in all honesty I'd rather buy a bigger Samsung screen if I was spending that much lol

The panasonic overhere is only a couple of hundred aussie dollars more, (200-500) depending where you go. Must say today walked into a store where the salespeople had spent a bit of time adjusting the pic on their models and must say that the pic quality now between the samsung and panasonic is very close. I still like the fact that the cricket does look a bit better on the panasonic though. Decisions, decisions.

Well G'day all and thanks for your posts. Just an update bought the above Samsung model with the corresponding Samsung HD box. The price of the Samsung won out over the Panasonic, especially after seeing a Samsung model that had been calibrated.

Just a quick Q though. Does anyone know what the colour temps are for the Samsung colour tones? I am trying to find one that is the closest to 6800K. At the moment I prefer the cooler 1 setting

Great Choice :)

Not sure about the colours but I'd guess cool1 one would be close too :)

Next:do all samsungs come with component inputs?
