nokia n95 8gb prodamN95/nokia/
hi i am currently a very unhappy bunny. i took my perfectly fine working n95 which was on v.12 of the firmware, did a backup (thank god) then proceeded to follow step by step instructions on the nokia software updater service on upgrading my phone. woe and behold i was offered v.20 :-) so i accepted, downloaded it and set it to install, i then walked away - when i came back the phone had shut down and a message was on screen asking me to remove the battery, put it back in and reboot the phone - i did!! the pc then advised me it could not recognise a phone installed and to press retry, i did - this went on for about 20 mins. i am now in the situation where i can't turn the phone off except by pulling the battery out and i can only turn it on and get the nokia logo on a white screen. i've tried every trick i can think off, including pressing *, 3 and the 'L' symbol and now give up. it's not practical for me to get to a CPW as i work no where near one and i need a phone, i'm currently using my wifes old 6280 pink phone (she lost the original black covers!) PLEASE HELP
.

I was in the EXACT same situation. Sorry to hear about it, if the phone has crashed whilst in the process of installing new version, it's pretty much goosed. I had to send mine back to o2, (within 30 days of starting contract luckily) and claim I knew nothing about it and got a new one. How long have you had the phone, is it insured or within 30 days of a contract ? Not a lot else you can do as far as I am aware. No hard resets or re installation doesn't tend to work, as the phone doesn't turn on.

You don't have to take it to a CPW,do you know of any other mobile phone retailer that isn't one of the big high street names?
------------

well the phone is 9 months old now
------------

What i'm saying is,is that you can take to any retailer and get them to flash the phone,if they have the resources.
------------

Did you charge up your battery before the software upgrade? I don't understand why else it would ask you to remove battery then
------------

the exact same thing happened 2 me 2 weeks ago... it seems that ur phone either was disconnected from the cable or ran out of battery during the update... i tried everytrick but it was of no use...so i took 2 a retailer..and an hour later it was working like a charm...
------------

Mine did this also, however once i'd removed the battery the phone rebooted back into the old OS, It did it a couple of times, untill i found out what it was... It was the PC's USB port in the end, it needed to be a real usb port not a usb hub port, worked a charm after that. Also Make sure you have the charger plugged in and the USB lead into a real port. I know its not much help now, but I'd say take it to a NSS and get the re-flash done.
