nokia n95 8 gaN95/nokia/ Hi folks,
Is my first post, so apologies in advance if this has been covered before.
Ive been given the chance of a brand new N95 8g on Voda contract at a very good price, but I'd like to have it unlocked to use with a different provider.
I understnd this can be done by Voda for ?0, which I'm happy enough to pay, but before I go ahead, I wanted to ask if there were/are any downsides to unlocking the phone?
Ive never had a mobile unlocked before, so I'm a bit uneasy.
Thanks all.

(there's 2 pages read the second)
Or use the search function to find the many more discussions on here about this ------------ not any that i know of. a phone is supposed to be unlocked in the first place! only evil business minded corporate giants would be so cruel as to locking the phone >( ------------ Thanks for the replies.
I did do a search before posting and although there are many posts relating to unlocking, i couldnt find any that made reference to any 'downsides' to having it done.
Ive looked through pge 2 of the N95 Tips, but I cant see anything - maybe I'm missing it?
Maybe there are no 'downsides' to having it done?
Any other comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Iggy. ------------ No there really aren't any 'downside' to it. Just do it, especially if you are not in contract with anyone right now, at least that's how I read it. ------------ Well am not that sure, but i think that when you unlock the phone you void its warranty. ------------ unlocking is different from debranding.
unlocking means the phone will only accept the network's sim cards. if you unlock it yourself (i.e sending it to a shop) it might void the warranty. but if your network provides the unlocking, it should be fine.
debranding is changing the product code to a generic one, and use the firmware provided by nokia rather than those customised by the network ------------ A How-To Guide To Unlock Your Nokia N95 - Simplified Unlocking Solution
