Now that the features of the SDK have been released, do any of you think that jailbreaking will become obsolete. I mean, these developers will be able to create pretty much all of the applications that jailbreaking allowed to be installed on the iPhone. And now it will all be Apple approved. sitemap
What say you? I think for the most part this WILL be the case. This is because the apps that most people want and need will be achievable under what Apple has offered up with the SDK.
In addition to what has now become technically feasible Apple has offered to host and distribute the apps, lowering the production and distribution costs.
I believe that this jailbreaking, underground sort of network will persist for those that are interested in apps not conceivable with the Official SDK. For example, those wanting unlocked phones will still need to go through the process. Also applications that fall into the category of bandwidth hogs and illegal behaviors and porn.
If people are hardcore and need bandwidth hogging and illegal apps jailbreaking will continue to grow, if not people will love the official SDK and use Safari for porn!
:-).
I say it stays
Not as widespread... but it stays the only thing that I can think of, is why would developers want to keep doing it for free when they can make some money for thier time and troubles. I think we will be paying for apps in the near future I'm a developer and I will be offering my apps on AppStore for free. The distribution of AppStore will reach far more people than Installer or Cydia. Everyone with iPhone will have it, not just those of us who have hacked them. I work with 3 very technical people with iPhones and their approach was "it voids my warranty I'll wait for he official sdk". People will go official to broaden the market that they can reach. It seems to me that after 2.0 is out there, even apps that apple doesn't want on their site ie.. porn ect.. will be available thru some type of third party loader without the need to jailbreak, sort of like itoner. Jailbreaking as we know it will evolve into the next level.
I see the future of hacked iphones breaking ground in mobile file distribution, on the fly printing technology, (real) remote control, and more. If i may... Personally i think that all hacking methods will remain, because, people outside the at&t network and the u.s. will want iphones to use like they would use a symbian phone for example. Plus, the hacking comunity, as history shows, always came up with new and innovating approaches to software on every platform, be it iphone or pc or whatever. I think jailbreaking and unlocking and so on, will not only remain but evolve. I actually think that it may happen faster... Remember that thing in some other country (yeah I have a horrible memory) where Apple has to sell unlocked iPhones?
